About the market

The Monschauer Weihnachtsmarkt transforms the historic old town into a festive sea of lights. Over 60,000 LEDs illuminate the half-timbered houses and create an atmosphere reminiscent of a starry sky. The tempting scent of Printen, almonds and Glühwein drifts through the narrow alleys and invites you to linger. Around 35 lovingly decorated little wooden stalls stretch from the market square along the Austraße to the “Paterehöfje” and on across the Rurbrücke to the Gerberplatz in the Stadtstraße. Since 2019 the market has been organised plastic-free; Glühwein and punch are served in the specially designed “Monschauer Weihnachtsmarkttassen”. A tour reveals special highlights: the picturesque “Paterehöfje”, the idyllic Eschbachstraße, the little winter market at the “Haus am Turm” in the Stadtstraße and the cosy Christmas meeting point on the Gerberplatz. Both in the market stalls and in the charming boutiques and craft shops there is an exquisite selection of craftsmanship, decorations, Christmas ornaments as well as high-quality and unusual gift items and culinary delights. On the second and third Advent weekends the Aukloster opens its doors, where exhibitors in the cloister present handmade products ranging from socks and scarves to decorative cushions and baby clothes. For a convenient journey, a park-and-ride system is available, operating on all Christmas market days from Monschau-Imgenbroich and, in addition, on Saturdays and Sundays from Monschau-Höfen and the Schulzentrum Haag. Please note that access to the car parks in the old town is only possible on market days until 10:00 and after 21:00. Residents of the old town, employees of local businesses and guests with a written reservation confirmation from an accommodation or catering business may drive by the shortest route to the nearest car park, but not through the town and only as long as sufficient capacity is available.
